Will Ezekiel and Carol Get Back Together?
Carol’s relationship with Ezekiel flourishes during their struggle with the Savior. They settled in the Kingdom, along with their adopted son Henry. When Alpha, the leader of the Whisperers, kills Henry, their marriage breaks up. Henry’s death is more than Carol can handle, leaving her in a state of shock. She begins to feel that her marriage to Ezekiel would not be complete without Henry, which led to their divorce. After the breakup, Carol goes to Alexandria with Daryl and Ezekiel lives in Hilltop. They met in the Commonwealth when Alexandrians moved temporarily to Pamela’s community.
Upon arriving at the Commonwealth, Carol Get learned that Ezekiel was seriously ill with thyroid cancer. When she finds out that she is expecting death due to the number of people in front of her on the waiting list, Carol decides to seek Lance Hornsby’s intervention. She offers her help to Lance for Ezekiel’s surgery. She also meets with her ex-husband from time to time to make sure he is alive. Carol’s efforts are successful in ensuring that Ezekiel undergoes surgery. As he prepares for surgery, Carol even stays with him in the hospital.
However, Carol’s friendship with Ezekiel does not mean that they are ready to date again. After the divorce, Carol expresses a lack of interest in meeting Ezekiel again. Still, Carol Get cares for her physical and emotional well-being. Seeing Ezekiel stricken with cancer, awaiting death, must be the last thing he wants to see. So, Carol Get tries her best to make sure Ezekiel never gets over her cancer. Her efforts are not motivated by romantic interests but by the true love she has for her ex-husband.
Ezekiel is the chapter that Carol finished writing, especially after Henry’s death. There is no way for Carol to meet Ezekiel again without having to worry about the memories of their adopted son. Therefore, a relationship between the two is almost impossible. Carol Get and Ezekiel recognize and accept that their lives are moving forward in two different ways. Although they continue to care for each other whenever their paths cross, they may not think about relationships. When Alexandria is completely rebuilt, Carol Get may leave for home, leaving Ezekiel alone.
With AMC already announcing a spin-off series focusing on Daryl and Carol’s journey forward, a reunion with Ezekiel seems unlikely. Their present friendship is devoid of warm feelings and shows how two people can care for one another even after the end of their love affair. After making sure that Ezekiel is healthy and well, we may see Carol Get withdraw from her life to continue her journey in a different direction.
