‘Borrego’ is an exciting survival film. Following is Elly, a young botanist who moved to a small desert town to learn more about certain plants. Her life changed when she saw the explosion of a drug dealer in the desert, and she was caught by a trafficker. She is forced to accompany her captor on a dangerous and unexpected journey to a distant land. Eager to survive, Elly takes dangerous steps to escape before the adventure becomes more dangerous.

Where Was Borrego Filmed?
‘Borrego’ was completely recorded in Spain, especially in the Tabernas Desert in the province of Almeria. According to reports, the first plan was to shoot a film in Spring 2020 in California, which is where the story took place. However, due to the Covid-19 epidemic, it was not possible to shoot in the Golden State.
After much deliberation, the production team settled in Spain as borders were reduced in European countries. Therefore, the main photography started in early October 2020 and was completed in November 2020.
Tabernas Desert (Spain)
Most of the film was filmed in the Tabernas Desert (known as Desierto de Tabernas in Spanish), a barren desert north of the provincial capital of Almeria. Since the 1950s, Tabernas has been a major recording site, due to its similarity to the deserts of the southwestern US, Arabia, northern Africa, and northern Mexico.

In an interview in the first half of 2022, director Jesse Harris was asked about his favorite scenes from ‘Borrego.’ He pointed out that one of his favorite scenes in the movie was actually a little unpopular shooting episode. He refers to the sequence in which Elly and Thomas cross a desert, and then the last one falls.

Harris shared that when they shot the scene it was a particularly windy day, which put all the actors and staff under tremendous pressure to put things together very quickly. Looking back, he believed that pressure worked well for them as it added to the tension on the screen.
