The Offer Season 1 Episode 5, Even before finishing the movie script, Francis Ford Coppola emphasizes that the anonymous Al Pacino is the right decision to play the role of Michael Corleone. However, studio head Robert Evans opposes the idea of removing Al Pacino from the film.
He refuses to see the tapes at Pacino’s auction and strongly refuses to listen to Ruddy’s arguments. Instead, he nominates Ruddy and a host of other actors who will star in the role. Coppola, on the other hand, believes Brando and Pacino are important in his vision. So, Ruddy is forced to work next to Evans to get two players out. The Offer Season 1 Episode 5.
The Offer Episode 4 Recap
The Offer Season 1 Episode 4, titled ‘The Right Shade of Yellow,’ opens with Ruddy arguing with Francoise. The couple’s argument creates tension in the young director. Meanwhile, Robert Evans is enjoying the success of his latest product, ‘Love Story,’ which emerges as a critical and commercial success. At the party, Ruddy reveals to Evans that Marlon Brando has agreed to star in ‘The Godfather.’ However, Evans dismisses the idea citing Brando’s latest series of flop films and his difficult situation.
Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo accompanied Ruddy to the meeting with Marlon Brando. During the meeting, the actor revealed that he only agreed to play the role of Vito Corleone since Frank Sinatra hated ‘The Godfather,’ and the duo had a personal argument. Still, Brando impresses Coppola, Puzo, and Ruddy with brief performances like Vito Corleone. Impressed by Brando’s commitment to the role, Coppola insists Brando and Al Pacino should play two film tracks.
However, Evans opposes the idea of removing Brando and Pacino. At that point, Ruddy’s relationship with Francoise deteriorates, and they seek medical treatment for the couple. During the session, Ruddy exclaims that he does not want to work with Francoise as a producer but still loves her. Francoise is devastated and decides to leave Ruddy. Ruddy walks behind Evans and talks to Charles Bluhdorn to allow Brando to be tempted. After Bluhdorn ratified the decision, Evans was forced to meet with Brando.
As the production begins to slow down, Ruddy meets with Joe Colombo to discuss the solution to Frank Sinatra’s opposition to the movie. Ruddy offers to reduce the focus of the story on Johnny Fontane, the character Sinatra thinks he is based on. After Colombo learned that homeowner Coppola wanted to shoot a movie with him and rescinded the contract, he threatened the landlord to honor his commitment. In the end, Ruddy has to convince Evans to take Pacino out of the movie so the production can go down.
