Based on the Bob’s Burgers TV drama which started in 2011 – and is expected to continue next season 13 – Bob’s Burgers movie brings the Belcher family to the big screen for the first time. Directed by series creator Loren Bouchard and lead director Bernard Derriman, Bob’s Burgers Movie is based on a script written by Bouchard and Nora Smith (Central Park).
The Bob’s Burgers follows in the footsteps of programs like The Simpsons, which has its own big-screen movie, but Bouchard adds Belcher’s twist to form. Bob’s Burgers Movie struggles to maintain a fast-paced pace, but it is all full of jokes and musical numbers for fun.
The Bob’s Burgers Movie: Review
The Bob’s Burgers movie finds Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) and Linda Belcher (John Roberts) struggling to make the latest repayment of their business loans, but the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Wonder Warf promises plenty of burgers business. However, when the sinkhole opens in front of the restaurant, making it difficult to attract customers, Bob and Linda have to be creative in order to make a living.
Meanwhile, Louise (Kristen Schaal) is on a mission to prove to her classmates that she is not a child and is appealing to Tina (Dan Mintz) and Gene (Eugene Mirman) to help her solve the murder case when the body was found in a newly opened sinkhole. The adventure takes them all over their city and captures the history of the Wonder Warf, with its owner Calvin Fischoeder (Kevin Kline).
Although episodes of The Bob’s Burgers are usually about 20 minutes long, Bob’s Burgers Movie works with Bouchard by extending Belcher’s antics to the normal working time of the film for an hour and 42 minutes – for better and worse. The story of Bob and Linda trying to keep the restaurant alive while the kids are settling in for murder can be found in any of the regular episodes of the show, which helps keep the franchise spirit alive and well.
But even with Bouchard adding music numbers and an extended sequence of dreams/legends to end the running time, the story still sounds a little simpler, and a little simpler in between. Thankfully, there are a lot of Bob’s Burgers jokes and comedy jokes to keep viewers happy, even if their interest may diminish for a while. Also, Bob’s Burgers Movie ends with a thrilling final act that feels like the only version of the film that can begin.
In their episodes, the characters in The Bob’s Burgers Movie are very similar to those in the show, but that in itself presents a problem for Bouchard. Since the characters don’t really grow or change the way the characters should change in a movie or a TV drama, Bouchard has to find a way to develop the Belchers without changing them too much.
This comes in the form of Louise’s personal journey, apparently not a child, but it is actually a matter of discovering her inner courage. At that moment, both Tina and Gene are on a journey of recovery, though theirs is not as clean and neat as Louise’s. However, it is enough to hide the fact that The Bob’s Burgers Movie does not take characters in any real new ways.
All in all, The Bob’s Burgers Movie is a fun big-screen experience for TV game fans, who can do well by checking it out. Bouchard was able to keep the heart and soul of the TV show as he raised it enough to make it suitable for viewing on stage.
And with all the jokes, it’s so exciting to see Bob’s Burgers Movie theater full of people laughing at Belcher’s jokes. Having said that, those who have not yet watched The Bob’s Burgers or have never experienced Belcher’s emotions and stupidity would do well to skip this particular release.
Even viewers of this program will not be able to step out if the series comes back if they have missed the film or are waiting for its release at home. However, for viewers of the moving sitcom who are looking for a fun summer movie, or who are looking for more Belchers during the seasons, The Bob’s Burgers Movie is a fun game with characters that fans know and love.
