Runway 34 is an exciting 2022 Hindi language movie directed by Ajay Devgn and produced by him under the title Ajay Devgn Films, the film stars Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh and -Boman Irani, Angira Dhar, and Aakank Singh play an important role. Ajay Devgn’s “Runway 34” is a movie about a pilot who risks the lives of his passengers by staying blind on the runway. Captain Vikrant Khanna is a proud man with an arrogant attitude. He had a photographic memory, which was a reason for his overconfidence.
Vikrant’s daughter forced her father to return home for her birthday, and he promised to do so. While he was relaxing in his hotel room, a friend called him and asked him to go to a party. At first, Vikrant was not interested in it, but later, he decided to participate. Vikrant and his friend stayed up late. He spent the rest of the day resting, and in the evening he had a plane to catch. He met his first boss, Tanya Albuquerque. Although he respected her professionally, she also had to deal with her rude attitude. They flew from Dubai to Cochin on Skyline Airways.
“Runway 34” is incredibly long, and Devgn’s performance makes it even worse. The text is written with a true story, and the stories of death are passed on without feeling. Gone are the days when proud men were regarded as virtuous, but the filmmakers did not go beyond that. The Captain was introduced as an alpha man with a song when he lit a cigarette. All of this and much more make the Captain’s character almost unbearable to watch.
Runway 34: Movie Synopsis
Captain Khanna was tired after the party last night, so after taking a trip and stopping the plane in the pilot’s condition, he fell asleep. Tanya was amazed at his ways. He first humiliated her when introduced her to the passengers and then behaved in an immoral way. The Captain asked for a coffee from a member of the house staff.
Although we only saw it in the background, it seemed that he had added the disprin he had requested to his drink. As he returned to his seat, he talked to Tanya that there were some days when he loved his job, but sometimes he also hated the job. When they were 45 minutes away from Cochin, the weather began to rise.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tripathi, an employee of the Cochin air traffic control unit, has returned to work after losing his daughter recently. He was responsible for transmitting weather information to Skyline 777. He warned them that in Cochin, visibility was low due to heavy rain.
They were asked to depart from Cochin, but the Captain wanted to try to disembark as they were inside Minima. After several failed attempts, they decided to stay. The ATC informed them that another plane had arrived safely at Trivandrum, and they could do the same.
The weather was clear and it was safe to stay. Tanya did not agree with the plan; she knew that if Cochin’s weather was bad, then it could be similar to Trivandrum. Instead, she felt that Bengaluru would be a safer option as the chances of having problems with the weather would be much lower, and they had enough fuel to take that trip.
The Captain did not heed her advice; asked her to study Trivandrum weather instead. Vikrant suggested that they try to stay in Cochin again as the trip to Trivandrum would leave them with enough fuel for them to travel again. They tried to approach the Cochin airport twice but eventually gave up and diverted to Trivandrum.
Meanwhile, all flights to Trivandrum were suspended due to an impending storm and poor visibility. Mr. Tripathi was asked to divulge details but was nervous about his loss. He was carrying a piece of paper with details of the weather as he drove. As the route change was announced to the passengers, an airline reporter informed the other passengers that another stop was Bengaluru and not Trivandrum.
Passengers rioted and demanded an answer from the driver. The Captain convinced the public that he was aware of his decision and decided for himself what the outcome would be. He promised to bring everyone safely, especially the elderly woman, Alma Asthana.
Runway 34 Ending Explained: What Happened At The End?
When Vikrant and Tanya were questioned by Narayan Vedant, they tried to give as little detail as possible. But Narayan knew his ways; he wanted to do a fake detector test on Vikrant, and he agreed to cooperate. Although Narayan asked him about the small gin bottle they found in the trash, he did not admit that he was drunk, and the result showed that he was telling the truth.
Unable to find out the truth from Vikrant, he began to press Tanya until he cried like Nandi. She admitted that Vikrant had come blindfolded. This changed the case as it pointed to the way he was doing his job, putting the lives of 150 passengers at risk. He added that staying on runway 34 was a mistake due to the air pressure in the tail of the plane.
Vikrant had given up on himself and his career, but his wife encouraged him to fight for his life. He can take the first step by dealing with issues that kill him. After boarding a plane, Alma Asthana was rushed to a hospital, where she died of a heart attack. Vikrant regretted her death, finally having the courage to touch her daughter and pass on her efforts to overcome the situation, and then conveyed words of condolence.
The next day in court, when he realized that her daughter Delilah Asthana had come to support his cause, he felt confident enough to explain herself. He explained that he used to fly a private jet and often run on runway 34. Therefore, he knew the flight path to its core. He had a photographic memory, and that helped him arrive on August 17, 2015.
He closed his eyes because he had given up but remembered the flight path with the help of his memory. He showed his skills in a happy environment. Narayan was amazed to see the pilot take the correct proportions even with his eyes closed. Finally, Mr. Tripathi at ATC Cochin lost his job because of his mistake that led to the scandal. Vikrant and Tanya’s licenses were revoked for three months. They got a temporary suspension as it was not only their fault but also the ATC and the weather.
Three months later, Vikrant is back at the airport, ready to fly. When a young pilot asked him what he should remember while flying, Vikrant told him to remember the passengers. We also learned that a mini gin bottle had been emptied by a cabin crew member for fear of a plane crash, and Vikrant kept his secret safe from the world. She was a single mother, and she was afraid of losing her job because of her honesty. Vikrant was sympathetic to her situation and handled the situation well.
He went into the bathroom and grabbed a cigarette between his lips, applauding. He was back to being the proud man he always was. “Runway 34” is said to be based on a real event. It is based on a similar incident that took place during a flight from Doha to Cochin. The plane crashed due to bad weather and poor visibility.
An investigation revealed that the plane had less fuel than the legal limit. But recently, the Federation of Indian Pilots denied its claim that it was a real event. They have pointed out that exposure of pilots is irrational and degrading. The film, they believe, somehow asks their job question. But what is clear is that the film took enough creative freedom to create the character of Captain Vikrant Khanna, while the event may have been inspired by a real event.
