“My Fake Boyfriend (2022).” When it comes to modern romance, love jokes are experienced almost everywhere. From Tinder meet-cutes to Uber’s meetings and catfishing on social media, the 21st-century dating scene is more chaotic (if not more so) than when computers were not available. Prime Video’s My Fake Boyfriend is experiencing some form of catfishing, this time with deepfake, and it is interesting enough to catch a tried and true one.
With some laughter, enough heart, and a great play from Love, Simon’s Keiynan Lonsdale, My Fake Boyfriend proves that not all love jokes need to change a predetermined course. Although it draws layers, Lonsdale – along with other actors Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) and Dylan Sprouse (After the Clash) – has this love story, even though it spends too much time focusing on its unusual and inadequate location. time to explore real love.

My Fake Boyfriend (2022): Movie Review
My fake boyfriend is following Andrew Lonsdale’s Andrew, the star of the upcoming drama series with his star, Nico (Marcus Rosner). His friends, Jake (Sprouse) and Kelly (Hyland) have long since split up, which has led to Jake building an online fake boyfriend who could make Nico jealous and help Andrew move on.
When this fake boyfriend, named after Cristiano an international soccer star, becomes popular on social media, things get worse, especially when Andrew starts looking for a real person. Rafi (Samer Salem) is a cooking coach and restaurant owner and, when Andrew finds himself falling in love with him, he has to roam through both his fake boyfriend and Nico’s repeated attempts to get him back.
The art of queer is generally regarded as one of the highest standards, probably because so little has been done and disseminated by mainstream media. Each film or television drama centered on steep stories is forced to represent a surprisingly diverse society, a work that is almost impossible and which, when done badly, stands out because of its flaws.
Fortunately, this is slowly changing and Pride Month has seen a new release that explores different ways of stupid life in different ways. My Fake Boyfriend may not be a subtle image of dog lovers, but the Prime Video movie of being right is not a bad thing – there needs to be some unusual art.
An in-depth subtle trick in the middle of My Fake Boyfriend blends probably easily in the logical way of a rom-com ready for its New York City version. However, Cristiano’s hijinks are sold entirely by Sprouse, who is above the game in the volatile conditions he finds himself in. Jake’s relationship with Heyland’s Kelly is another highlight of the movie, proving that the former Modern Family actor jokes the same way. while on the ABC sitcom.
Eventually, the chemistry between Rafi and Andrew drives up a large part of My Fake Boyfriend, even if it glows a little electric. The movie doesn’t seem to notice this, there is more to focus on their emerging romance. Instead, My Fake Boy posted social media jokes and dirty jokes in the bathroom that, though not a bad thing, degraded what made the movie popular in the first place.
Romantic jokes live and die with their middle-aged couples, but if the audience does not get to spend enough time with them, the climax may collapse. That’s what happens here, Rafi’s inevitable encounter with Andrew is tempered by the fact that viewers do not yet know Rafi (or his energy with Andrew) enough to get into it.
Lonsdale and Salem did their best to make this love a reality, however. It is enough to raise My Fake Boy from a mediocre rom-com and there is nothing wrong with that. Like other great love jokes, My Fake Boyfriend slips down easily, accompanied by a strong twist of its characters and funny jokes that don’t really push their R rating beyond a few visuals and sexual references.
However, there is something comforting about the way My Fake Boyfriend is not trying to re-invent the wheel. There’s content that stays in its fascinating New York version where it all works out in the end.
